Safe and Easy-Clean Resin Flooring for a New Garden Centre

This project involved transforming a 200m² retail space inside a new garden centre. The client needed a flooring system that would be safe for customers, durable for staff, and easy to clean, all while withstanding the moisture present in the concrete slab.

Timing was critical as the shopfit team were scheduled to begin work immediately after the weekend. We completed the entire installation without disrupting the wider programme.

Our Approach

To achieve a long-lasting and compliant finish, we recommended a moisture-tolerant resin system capable of bonding securely even when the slab cannot be fully dried.

Surface Preparation – Removing Existing Paint

We began with dust-controlled diamond grinding to remove the existing painted surface and expose a clean, sound substrate. This is essential for ensuring the new resin coating bonds properly.

Moisture-Tolerant Resin Coating

Because moisture readings in the slab were higher than ideal, we used ACL-Coat HBMT, a high-build epoxy coating specifically formulated to tolerate elevated moisture levels without failure.

This provided a highly durable, seamless surface ready for heavy retail footfall and regular cleaning.

Textured Alox Finish for Slip Resistance

Safety was a key priority. To prevent slips in a busy retail environment, we incorporated Alox, a durable aluminium oxide aggregate, to create a consistent textured, anti-slip surface.

Resin Cove Around Steel Posts

To complete the system, we formed resin coves around all structural posts. This gives the floor a more polished visual finish while eliminating dirt traps and making cleaning significantly easier.

Why This Matters

Garden centres deal with constant footfall, trolleys, water carry-over from plants, and regular cleaning. A durable resin floor with slip resistance and moisture tolerance ensures the space stays safe, attractive, and easy to maintain.

Completing the work over a weekend meant the shopfit team could begin first thing Monday with no delays to the opening schedule.
