Hygienic, Durable Butchery Floor with Drainage Slope
We were asked to deliver a flooring solution for a new butchery unit in Penrith. The client needed a surface that would be easy to clean, resistant to wear and impact, and designed to slope toward newly installed drains for effective hygiene management.
Our Approach
We specified a polyurethane resin system, ideal for food-safe environments where constant cleaning, foot traffic, and temperature changes are part of daily operations.
Day 1: Surface Prep and Fall Creation
We began with dust-controlled diamond grinding to prepare the existing surface. Rebate cuts were then made around the edges to help anchor the screed securely during curing.
A polyurethane base screed was laid across the entire space, carefully worked to create a gentle fall towards the drains. This allows liquids to be easily squeegeed toward the gullies, helping staff maintain a clean and compliant environment.
Day 2–3: Final Screed and Wall Junctions
Once the base was set, we installed a 6mm polyurethane resin floor screed, which provides a hard-wearing, textured finish that’s easy to clean and offers good slip resistance.
To finish, we applied a resin cove around the full perimeter of the room. This creates a seamless transition between the floor and walls, eliminating dirt traps and making wash-downs more efficient.
Day 4: Expansion Joints and Final Touches
To allow for natural movement in the subfloor, expansion joints were installed where needed, completing the system.
Why This Matters
In butchery and food production, the floor isn’t just a surface, it’s a frontline defence against bacteria, contamination, and costly breakdowns.
This project combined robust materials with smart installation to deliver a floor that will stay compliant, easy to maintain, and safe to work on for years to come.
